Speedwell and Mayflower divert to Plymouth [Saturday, 5 September 1620]
Observations showed ship above 100 leagues [345 miles] W.S.W. of Land’s End. Speedwell leaking badly; hove to, and signalled the Mayflower, in company. On consultation between masters, carpenters, and the principal passengers, it was decided to put back into Plymouth and determine whether the pinnace is seaworthy. Put about and laid course for Plymouth.
