Soule Kindred Scholarship Program

Soule Kindred in America has historically supported an annual scholarship, the Soule Kindred Scholarship. The Soule Kindred Board of Directors has approved two 2025 scholarships awards of $1,620 each.

The scholarship is restricted to those who will be entering their first or second year in college and who have a demonstrated lineage from Mayflower passenger George Soule.

The scholarship competition will be judged primarily on each candidate’s response to an essay question which requires him/her to show a reasonable understanding of and personal reflection on his/her Pilgrim heritage. The essay question for a given year is developed by the Scholarship Committee and a different question is utilized each year. High school grades and letters of support are utilized to decide among applicants with equally impressive essay responses.

All applications with supporting material must be received by the Scholarship Committee by July 1, 2026. The announcement of the award will be made after August 1, 2026, and the actual monetary award will be made after the Scholarship Committee has received the academic transcript of the winner's successful completion of his/her school semester.

If no application is considered sufficiently meritorious to justify awarding of the scholarship, then none will be awarded for that year.

Announcing the 2025-2026 Soule Kindred Scholarship Recipients

Congratulations to Tristan Kirstein [George, George, William, Joseph, Benjamin, George, George, William Riley, Rebecca Jane (Soule) Fullerton, Florence Martha (Fullerton) Wolcott, Alvin Fletcher, Tanya Jean (Wolcott) Kirstein, Tristan Fletcher]

Here is a description of Tristan’s interests and goals in his own words:

“I am a freshman attending Southern Adventist University in Collegedale, TN, where I am studying Business/Pre-Dentistry. Next year I am planning on being a medical assistant as a Student Missionary in Zambia. In my free time I enjoy fishing, playing cello and sports―especially football. After graduating from Dentistry School, I plan on joining my brother and opening a dentist office to serve others in our community.

Thank you so much for awarding me with the 2025 Soule Kindred in America Scholarship! As a freshman attending an out-of-state private university, this is going to help me out greatly with my university tuition bill. I promise I am doing my part scholastically and understand the sacrifices many have made for me to have this opportunity. Your support also encourages me to push through whatever challenges come my way. Please share my appreciation with whoever has made this possible for me!”

Our other worthy scholarship recipient is Emily Nichols [George, George, Mary (Soule) Devol\Deuel, Benjamin, John Deuel, Cornelius, Preserved Devol, William Cornelius Deuel, Ira Gibson Dewel, Mable Jane (Dewel) Keith, Mary Jane (Keith) Nichols, Richard Keith, Kyle Steven, Emily Kathryn]

Emily explains her aspirations and future plans below:
“My name is Emily Nichols, and I am currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Carroll College in Helena, Montana. In addition to my academic studies, I am an active member of the Carroll College Dance Team, which has allowed me to develop strong teamwork, discipline, and leadership skills while balancing the demands of a rigorous academic program. I am deeply honored and grateful to have been selected as a recipient of this scholarship. I would especially like to express my sincere appreciation to my grandmother, Barbara Lockard, whose constant encouragement and unwavering belief in my abilities have inspired me to strive for excellence and confidently pursue every opportunity. Her support has played a meaningful role in both my personal growth and academic journey. I would also like to extend my heartfelt thanks to Soule Kindred for this generous opportunity and for investing in my educational and professional future. This scholarship brings me one step closer to achieving my goal of becoming a compassionate and dedicated nurse, committed to making a positive difference in the lives of others.”
